June is the month that we celebrate many occasions, but one of the special observances is that of Father’s Day. Most of the times Mother’s Day overshadows Father’s Day, but we are to remember that without fathers none of us would be here. The only person who was conceived without a father, was Jesus, who was immaculately conceived spiritually by the power of the Holy Spirit. On this Father’s Day, please take the time to place a comment about your farther in the comment section of this page .
I will start with my father, Isiah Hamilton, Jr., who was a wonderful care provider for all eleven of his children. He did whatever was necessary to provide food, clothing and shelter for us. He would work all day, come home, changed his clothes and worked on the family farm until sunset. He was also a caretaker of elderly people in the neighborhood who needed wood for their fireplaces and took them shopping when necessary. My nephew Nicholas, described him as a grandfather, who could fix anything related to the farm and the farm animals. He said he learned so much from his grandfather.
One of the most important things that my Dad did along with my Mom (Viola Wright Hamilton) was to provide us a safe and Godly environment and made sure all of got a good education. Although he only had an eighth-grade education and she an eleventh-grade education, they valued education, because they knew the opportunities that would open for us, our children, grandchildren and future generations. Of the eleven children all of us graduated from college except two of us. Our youngest brother died at age 16 and my older brother decided to pursue an industrial job which enable him to provide adequately for the needs of his family.
Some of my father’s hobbies were singing in a quartet, playing baseball and coaching baseball teams. These are also an indication that he was an image of a Dad that is given in 1 Thessalonians 2:11–12, “For you know that we dealt with each of you as a father deals with his own children, encouraging, comforting and urging you to live lives worthy of God, who calls you into his kingdom and glory.”
Although my earthly father has gone to be with the Lord, his legacy is still the hallmark of the Hamilton Family Legacy of providing for our families spiritually, physically and educationally.
Happy Father’s Day
A few years ago when my grandson Amir T’Challa was born, an idea came to me one day when I was rocking him. I have not acted on it, but in the last few weeks my daughter Akilah and my husband Andrew have mentioned it to me to get started.
The idea is to start a website for grandparents call, Spoil and Return. This will be a way for grandparents to link with each other by using Facebook and other media venues to exchange ideas and stories about their grandchildren or their grandparents. Since technology is the way of the future, even grandparents must embrace it.
On this interactive site grandparents and others will be asked to participate in the following:
1. Share testimonials about the influence of grandparents on the lives of their grandchildren or grandchildren can give testimonials about how their grandparents influence their lives.
2. Visit Tidbits to find helpful resources, to chat and to ask questions about everyday issues and solutions regarding grandparenting.
3. Feel free to post fun pictures of you interacting and spending time with the kids.
The host reserves the right to view articles, tidbits, pictures and comments before posting.
